WHAT IS A GUARDIAN HOME?

We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have a strong demand for our family-raised, health-guaranteed, pure-bred Labrador puppies. To keep up with demand, we want to grow our breeding program, but we still want to raise our dogs and puppies in close-knit families.Without compromising any of our dogs' joy or need for love and care, the guardian program enables us to expand our efforts and improve our breed. Even though we would prefer to keep every dog in our program, we recognize that they will be happier and more content if they receive more individualized care than we are able to provide. During their time in our program, one of our hopeful breeding puppies will live with you permanently as a guardian home. The guardian family receives full ownership of the dog upon retirement (and at our expense, spayed or neutered), and they are allowed to keep it forever.

WHAT COSTS DO GUARDIAN FAMILIES HAVE TO PAY?

You will pay an "Extremely" reduced pup cost for a premium dog that we have personally chosen to stay in our program! "Regular" dog care expenses like food, toys, training and veterinary care that are not connected to breeding must be covered by the guardian. It is the guardian's duty to ensure that the dog has received the most recent vaccinations.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • Teach them how to walk nicely on a leash and basic commands like sit, stay, down, "no," quiet, and leave it.
  • Potty train and crate train them by the time they are nine months old.
  • Never let the dog live outside; instead, keep them as indoor pets for the whole family.
  • Before the dog is fully vaccinated (about 16 weeks), keep it off the ground in areas where other dogs congregate, such as dog parks and pet stores, and keep it away from unknown dogs.
  • Have the ability and willingness to socialize the dog with both people and other dogs.
  • Make sure they get enough exercise and mental stimulation.
  • *Must live within 2 hours of Scottsdale, AZ*
  • Are able to help transport the dog to and from the breeder in a 24- to 36-hour window.
  • Must be able to collaborate, communicate, and work well with the breeder.
  • In the event of any serious illness or accident, get in touch with the breeder.
  • While taking part in our program, you may not be a guardian home for a different breeder.
  • Although not necessary, a fenced-in yard is preferred.
  • Accepting and signing the contract that the breeder has provided.

WHAT IS THE BREEDER RESPONSIBLE FOR?

Picture
  • Provide guardian family with a healthy dog at a reduced cost.
  • Pay for health testing.
  • Pay for all breeding related expenses (ie progesterone testing, semen collection, etc)
  • Teaching the guardian family how to detect a heat cycle and how to care for a pregnant dog if they don’t already know.
  • Pay for the spay/neuter upon retirement
  • Pay a monetary sum of 10% selling price per puppy (currently $300.00 per pup) to guardian.
  • Provide lifetime support for the dog.
  • Always be willing to take the dog back if the guardian family can no longer care for them.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DECIDE I DON'T WANT MY DOG BRED?

Choosing to take on the role of guardian home for one of our dogs is a major decision that should not be taken lightly. Please remember that guardians have a legal duty to abide by the terms of the contract and that we retain full legal ownership of the dog until they are retired from our program. Our dogs are of the highest caliber and have been hand-picked to enhance and advance our program. Not everyone has the desire to become a guardian home! Please give this commitment serious thought.

DO WE HAVE TO FEED A SPECIFIC FOOD OR TREATS?

While we don't mandate a particular brand of food, we do ask that it have at least a 3.5 star rating on Dog Food Advisor. It is also necessary that they not be given any grain free food. It is my preference that our dogs continue to be fed Purina Pro Plan or a similar premium dog food. We don't have any rules about treats, but they should be of a good caliber. No rawhide!

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY DOG ISN'T SUITABLE FOR BREEDING?

Your dog will be removed from our program if we or one of our veterinarians determines that it is not a good candidate for breeding. There won't be any costs involved, but you will need to cover the cost of the spay or neuter. You will then become the sole owner after that.

BENEFITS TO BEING A GUARDIAN HOME

  • You are receiving a high-quality dog at an extremely reduced rate.
  • The breeder will cover the cost of the dog's health testing.
  • Families are welcome to come visit their female and her puppies when the pups are 6 weeks old.
  • Financial reimbursement for every litter.
  • Spaying is covered by the breeder.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF BEFORE CONSIDERING THE GUARDIAN PROGRAM

CAN YOU STAND TO BE WITHOUT YOUR GIRL WHILE SHE IS WITH US FOR BREEDING AND WHELPING?
Typically, females stay with us for one week during the breeding cycle and then for an additional seven weeks after they give birth to their puppies. This could occur as often as twice a year.
DO YOU INTEND TO REMAIN IN THIS AREA?
As previously stated, the guardian program might not be appropriate for you if you already know that you might move within the next 4-5 years.
ARE YOU ABLE TO DEVOTE THE TIME AND ENERGY TO YOUR DOG'S TRAINING?
Our best effort to treat our guardian dogs as members of the family sets us apart from many other breeders. This implies that during their stay with us, they will reside in our house. All dogs need to undergo obedience training in order to be able to do this. They should be able to sit, stay, down, "no," be quiet, and leave it, at the very least. Along with other fundamental manners, they need to be trained to use a crate and be housebroken.
